 Hi Wire!
Well, he is my two cents on the whole anti-U2 sentiment the American
media has towoward our favorite band. The media put alot of pressure on
U2 to revive a slumping music industry as a whole. What the media
doesn't understand about those of us who are "die-hard fans" is that
when U2 releases an album that is all we care about. It's not like we
are gonna grab the new U2 LP and say ," Oh boy! There's the new 3rd Eye
Blind album, I should get it!" No. We grab the U2 LP, pay for it and
leave with huge smiles on our faces.
The media saw that only U2's sales were up but, the music industry's
sales as a whole were still down. The media didn't like this and so the
backlash came. As we all know, the media loves to set people up and
then, knock 'em down. Look at what happened to Micheal Jackson. The
media never left him alone for an instant. When he was charged with
child molestation, they had convicted him befor the investigation had
even started. I'm sure the media is just waiting for Madonna to start a
tour so they can trash it as well. Why? Well, she has radicly changed
her style and now their are certian songs she doesn't whish to sing
again. Sound familiar?
So, maybe this whole Greatest hits thing is just a way of getting some
possitive press befor releasing the next LP. Aerosmith did it and it
went over well. Then again it could be nothing but hype to get us
talking U2 24-7 again to every one we know to promote a new LP. I
suppose we'll just have to wait and see...
