I think this quote long predates "Lost Highway", the David Lynch movie,
you mean? "Lost Highway" is an old C&W song (I _think_ Hank Williams is
the writer, but I may be mistaken). This quote may have been taken from
the band's contribution to the "Farewell to The Tube" TV show--"The Tube"
was a music-video-interview show on British TV that was hosted by Paula
Yates, which did a lot to break U2 to a wider audience in the mid-80s. U2
did a guest appearance on the "farewell" show when the series got
cancelled, and they did play part of "Lost Highway", and I do recall Bono
said something like what you cited above--sorry, it's been more than a few
years since I last saw the tape! It's short but funny, worth tracking down
on video if you can find it...It probably dates from late 1987 or 1988 or
thereabouts...
