Just to tell my own experience. Here in France, all U2 shows in
closed places (like arenas and also stadiums) are sold out some months
before the D-Day. For instance, the Popmart show was sold out 4 months
before the day of the show. So, there always are fans who couldn't buy
tickets in official offices (because they were late, for instance) and there
always are scalpers beside the stadiums/arenas. The day of the show, they
usually sold tickets about twice their normal price. Moreover, there never
are official tickets released the day of the show. And not only for U2 but
for all bands. So, there often are some people who buy tickets to scalpers,
whatever the show.
In the name of love
Karine
