Island Records: Crackdown On Bootleggers

It seems Island/Polygram and/or RIAA have cracked down on bootleggers
such as Danny Best, Geraldo, Popclerk, U2 Greek God, etc. to name a
few. Could this be implying something?

Bono once said that it was no surprise if there were half-filled
stadiums in Popmart because they were intentionally reaching out to
fans by going to smaller cities. Another of the purposes of the
all-stadium tour would be to put the scalper out of business, he said.
They were willing to take the risk of playing to half-filled
stadiums, and U2 are known for taking risks.

Well, maybe U2 want to put the "bootlegger" out of business in the
same way as they did to scalpers in Popmart, as observed by this
recent "crackdown". Could it mean that they will release a live
album? Of course there is a "bootleg subculture" out there but then
again, there are a lot of first-timers who just want a foretaste of
"live U2" and if they had a cheaper, official alternative to the
over-priced bootlegs, they would definitely go for the former.

A live album would be one big risk because it would definitely be a
"hard-sell" to non-U2 fans. Yet, maybe it could just be out of
gratitude to their long-time fans. Then again, this must be just me
and my wishful thinking... (yeah right, as if U2 will ever release a
live album in the forseeable future, I highly doubt it)

Cheers,

J
