When we talk about 'great bands'....we need to see what goes into making
a great band...and I have reviews the history of some of them and found
they have several things in common...(there are exceptions of
course...but I'm talking generally..and of course there are bands who
had all this but didn't make it 'big')
the band members were friends before they were in the band or became
good friends in the course of their work (chemistry is important)
the band members got together while still young...(Paul M. and John L
and George H. met as teen-agers ...Mick and Keith go way back...all of
U2...three of R.E.M were still teen-agers when they formed a band...I'm
talking early connections...I could name more but you know..space...
the members had a definite mission of what they wanted their band to
become (or not to become)...they had goals early on...
hard work..willing to play just about anywhere..
discipline when it came to the music...(not necessarily in their
personal lives)...
had what is called here 'the Bono factor'....a front man who had a
differnt or unique approach to taking the stage...someone who stands
out...doesn't have to be the singer...could be a Keith Moon...but
someone in the band that is more that just a band member....I don't know
how to say this clearly but someone who has to act up at each
performance or the audience will be dissapointed...
There are more...anyone think of any thing else..? What I'm trying to
say is what bands are out there today who got together when they were
younger than 20...had discipline..worked hard and had specific goals in
mind...and have the 'Bono factor?'.....and whatever other common
denominators you can think of....and of course you have to throw in
talent...that is a given....if you can find that maybe you might find
another superstar band..although I refuse to call them the next
U2...it's a matter of principal...
