TIME 100: Apple’s Jony Ive Is An ‘Artist,’ Bono Sings Praises

This year’s Time 100 list is now public and Apple’s Jony Ive can add “Artist” to his list of accolades. Time places its “100 most influential people in the world,” in one of five categories: artists, leaders, pioneers, titans and icons. These buckets are sometimes an awkward fit, so before we slap a jaunty beret atop Ive’s head (as I have above) it’s worth asking the two most obvious questions: is he indeed an artist and, if so, is that a good thing?

No Vertigo for U2 as band sees Elevation on rich list

It may be four years since they last had a number one hit but U2 remain among the world’s richest musicians according to an influential rich list. Bimpe Archer reports THE eagerly awaited Sunday Times Rich List has ranked Dublin rock band U2 as the third richest music millionaires in the UK and Ireland.

It calculates that the band’s wealth has increased since 2012 with Bono, the Edge, Larry Mullen and Adam Clayton sitting comfortable in the top three of the annual rock and roll-call of riches.

U2 top Ireland’s music rich list


Rockers U2 are Ireland’s richest musicians, boasting a combined fortune of €610 million Euros.

The Beautiful Day hitmakers came third on the Sunday Times Rich List, behind Sir Paul McCartney and his wife Nancy Shevell, and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

They were streets ahead of Sir Elton John, who has 281 million Euros to his name, and David and Victoria Beckham, who boast 234 million Euros – the same amount as Mick Jagger.

Michael Flatley’s nifty footwork has also banked him a fortune to land seventh place, while other Irish musicians on the list include Enya and Van Morrison.

One Direction star Niall Horan is a new addition on the Young Music Rich List – the Mullingar singer and his bandmates have each racked up 5.8 million Euros, according to the figures.

Dr. Dre, U2 and Elton John Lead Forbes’ List of 2012 Highest Paid Musicians

This year’s list is made up of an international ensemble and shows that most musicians still make a big part of their earnings from touring.


Forbes Magazine has just released its list of 2012’s highest paid musicians and it shows an international cast of pop stars, hip-hop giants, and rock icons. Rap mogul Dr. Dre leads the pack of this year’s top earners, followed by Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, The Rocketman Elton John, rock legendary group U2, and British boy band Take That. The list also shows that most of the artists’ earnings came from their rigorous touring and live shows.

Dr. Dre did not have a new album released this year, but that did not stop the super producer from collecting dollars from his past records, concert productions, and of course his music accessory biz, headphones. Forbes reports that Dre took in $110 million from his Beats headphone line.
